Description

This sacred idol captures the celestial form of Lord Ranganathar (a reclining form of Vishnu) resting peacefully on the coiled serpent Adisesha, the king of snakes with five or seven hoods spreading protectively above Him. Beside Him sits Goddess Lakshmi (Ranganayaki Thayar) near His heart, symbolizing compassion, prosperity, and eternal divine love.

Lord Ranganathar is the presiding deity of the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, one of the holiest Vishnu temples and the largest functioning Hindu temple complex in the world. The posture of Ranganathar in yogic sleep (Yoganidra) on the Milky Ocean (Ksheerabdi) represents the cosmic balance between creation, preservation, and rest.
